October 29th at 1 PM – Planning Meeting @ the Clubhouse
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
9/17/2025 From Jay Fallon and Judy Goglia:
Time to start planning the Hickory Woods Christmas party!
..Whaaaatt?..
It may seem very early but a lot happens over the next 95 days or so and an initial meeting to start the process soon can give us a sufficient planning runway. Starting early allows us to gather lots of ideas, form some working groups and identify and acquire the resources for a successful activity.
Interested in being a member of the planning team? The initial meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, 10/1 at 1 pm in the clubhouse. EVERYONE is welcome. If you can’t make the meeting but would still like to help, please contact Judy Goglia or Jay Fallon and we will make sure you are included.
In the meantime, enjoy Rosh Hashana, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Columbus Day, Diwali, Veterans Day, Hanukkah and any other celebration days.
Golf! 5/25 Bob Doyle Scramble – Pictures and results
From Dick Loschi: Results of the Second Annual Bob Doyle Scramble
The day was windy and cool, cloudy but no rain. Twenty-three hardy HW Community members played thru in this year’s scramble. There were many great shots and timely putts but mostly a fun time with many laughs. The course took its toll on most team scores, but one team stood tall.
Congratulations to Gary Shanahan, Jack Noonan, and Nancy Shearer whose score of -2 was the best for the day.
Following golf, many residents returned to the clubhouse for the annual hotdog feast. Many thanks to those ladies who supplied the sweet treats for all to enjoy.
The HW Fall scramble will soon be here in October!!
Slam the Scam! How to spot common tax scams; How to avoid impostor scams.
Getting the word out about FTC imposter scams: The FTC will never demand money, make threats, tell you to transfer money, or promise you a prize. If you have been targeted by an illegal business practice or scam, report it.
While these developments are encouraging, too many people are still losing money to government imposters. There’s more work to be done and the FTC is on the case. But here’s how you can help, too. Talk about these scams. Help the people you care about know how to slow down, check it out, and stop before they pay a scammer. Read and share How To Avoid Imposter Scams. Help a friend sign up to get Consumer Alerts just like this one. And encourage people to report imposter scams at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
From Xfinity: LINK Can you spot common tax scams?
From the Social Security Administration:
On National Slam the Scam Day – March 6 – and throughout the year, we give you the tools to recognize Social Security-related scams and stop scammers from stealing your money and personal information.
Help protect your loved ones and people in your community this Slam the Scam Day by:
  • Learning about the latest scams. Information can empower you to quickly recognize a scam. Signs of a scam include:
    • An unexpected problem or offer of a prize or benefit increase,
    • Pressure to act immediately, and
    • A request for an unusual payment like cryptocurrency, gift cards, gold bars, and wire transfers, even with the promise of keeping your money “safe.”
  • Reporting scams as soon as possible. Victims shouldn’t be embarrassed if they shared personal information or suffered a financial loss. We are all vulnerable.
Important: Changes to paying monthly HOA fee
From NewStar, December 17, 2024:
This is a quick reminder that while your condo fee is not changing for 2025, our office is now receiving condo fee payments at our new address. Any paper checks or bank bill-pays should be sent into our new address:
c/o Realty Management Partners
8025 S. Willow Street, Suite 211
Manchester, NH 03103
Our staff is currently still working from our Mammoth Road address, and payments can be dropped off in person until February 2025. All other payments that are not made via the New Star Portal should be sent to the address noted above.
A note regarding Bank Bill Pay – Banks who submit payments to us via bank bill pay are not submitting your payment electronically. The bank is cutting a physical check for you and mailing it in to the address you note in the bill pay entry. It is very important that you verify and update your bank bill pay.
If you need any help or have any follow up questions, please email in to CustomerService@NewStarPropertiesNH.com or call into the admin or accounting teams (603-432-8778, ext. 115 or ext. 119).
Calling all Knitters, Crocheters and Wannabees!
Our Thursday craft group meets at the Clubhouse at 1:00 pm.
All crafters are welcome to join,  bringing  any handcrafts or projects you want to work on.
Anybody that would like to learn to knit or crochet are encouraged to join the group. Extra yarn and needles will be provided along with teaching techniques. Very simple patterns will be provided for the hats. Or just knit a scarf for yourself!
Nora’s Knapsacks is in full swing for 2024, so we need to get those hats knitted or crocheted.  Last year we sent almost two hundred hats to the backpack project and to the homeless shelters in Manchester.  Let’s beat that number this year!
Come and join the group for a lot of laughs and a very worthy project.
Contact Nancy Shearer or Vern Loschi for any questions.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

From Sue Orr and Nancy Shearer:

cpr

We are discussing the possibility of having a CPR class at the clubhouse.

  • In order to plan, we need to assess how many people may be interested in taking the class.
  • The cost would be between $25-$30 per person for the class and materials.
  • The class would include verbal instruction, demonstration of CPR techniques, first aid for adult choking, and practice of skills.  There will also be AED instruction.
  • Infant CPR will not be included but it could be a separate class if there is sufficient interest.
