On Tuesday, June 20th the annual Mesiti Cup Golf Tournament was held at Windham Country Club. A total of 84 men and women participated in this event. The Londonderry Communities of Hickory Woods, Cross Farm, and The Nevins competed in a scramble format. In the Men’s Competition Hickory Woods won with an average score of 67.60. Cross Farm came in second (70.22) and The Nevins third (70.75). Prizes were awarded to each community’s best scoring team. The Hickory Woods best score of 66 was turned in by Martin Meehan, Jay Fallon, and John Goglia. The top Cross Farm team score of 63 belonged to Charlie Clifford, Jim Hermete, and Dick Ducharme. For the Nevins it was the team of Tony Violanti, Art Nielsen, Don Nikola, and Jim Spies shooting a 67.
The women had a creative format that was well received.
Following the golf rounds a delicious lunch was served. During this time a 50/50 raffle was held that generated $241 which was donated to the Liberty House in Manchester.
The Mesiti Cup Committee this year was staffed by Alan Haroian (Chairman), Paul Hallee, Rick Engler, Darlene Ducharme, Martin Meehan, Mary Ferris, John Dalbenzio, and Tony Violanti. All of these communities are very grateful to Joanne Flynn for her expert guidance and assistance in providing a great, local venue for this outing. A fun time was had by all.

Hickory Woods Spring Golf Scramble May 21
Hickory Woods Spring Golf Scramble May 21

Hello Golfers
Hope we all endured the winter and the winds of April. Now we can watch as the weather improves, and the grass gets green in anticipation of having fun.
Dick Loschi has been looking into holding a spring scramble he is looking to get some indication of those who may be interested. Remember this is for both men and women.
The date for the scramble will be Sunday, May 21. First tee time is 12:30
Remember this is the short 9-hole tournament and will be played at the Hidden Creek course. So far there are 26 players signed up to play. Teams will be announced later.
Hoping to see you outside and on the course.

Important Information for You
There a section of the Hickory Woods website that contains useful information. From the Home Page, move cursor to Homeowner Info. From pull-down list, select Important Advisories.
This area contains a variety of articles written by members of Hickory Woods community which hopefully will provide you with some guidance in dealing with issues pertaining to your home and/or the home owner’s association. (Many of these articles will be a distillation of information gathered from discussions held in the “forum” section.) You may not have any of these issues, but if you do, these articles can be a starting point for understanding and next steps. An excerpt of several examples of site content are listed below with links to the full description.
Home Owner Alert – Plumbing Leaks
A series of recent incidents of plumbing leaks in the community are the reason for this alert. It is possible that the plastic water supply lines sometimes fail at the connection to the shut off valves. (A plastic ferrule which holds the connection together slips off.) Safety Notice – Check Your Vents
Those little white PVC pipes we all have sticking out of the sides of the houses are for air intake and exhaust for each appliance. You should make sure they do not get blocked by snow. See the full article by following this link to site:

Battery in Your Irrigation Controller
Because of the recent power failure some of you may have noticed that your sprinklers are being activated at odd times of the day. I discovered that my Irrigation Controller had lost the correct time and date as a result of the power failure. See the full article by following this link to site:

Septic Systems and Septic Alarms
Hickory Woods homes have septic systems which consist of a large buried rectangular tank made of concrete and a leach field. Some of the residents also have a pump as part of their septic system. In addition to this article a package of information was given to each household in 2018. It contains lots of general information and also specific information for each household. Radon and Hickory Woods
We moved to Hickory Woods in July 2014 and were advised to test for radon after a year. We tested for radon in August 2015, discovering that we had a level of 23.1 compared to the recommended level of 4 or less. After investigating and learning about radon and mitigation, we had a system installed in December 2015. Our radon level is now at 1. See the full article by following this link to site:
