Anthony Mesiti, founder of Mesiti Development and builder of our Hickory Woods Community, passed away on February 9, 2017 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Windham NH – Anthony Mesiti, 73, passed away on February 9, 2017 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
He was preceded in death by his mother Francesca and father Salvatore. Tony was born on September 25, 1943 in Calabria Italy. As a young boy, he and his family migrated from Italy to Canada. He was educated at Notre Dame Academy in Welland, Ontario. His family later received citizenship and relocated to Lawrence, Massachusetts where they resided for many years.
As a young man, Tony was an entrepreneur at heart and yearned for success to provide his family a comfortable life. He founded National Surface Cleaning, which became the largest asbestos removal company in the North East. His company was responsible for removing asbestos from many prestigious buildings in Boston, including the Prudential Center and the Statehouse. He later founded Mesiti Development Corporation, specializing in the construction of both residential and commercial properties. His favorite projects included his many adult 55+ communities in southern NH. Built originally as a co-residence for his late mother, Tony constructed one of the largest and prominent homes in Windham NH where he proudly resided with his wife Susan until his death.
Tony was a humble and hardworking immigrant who never forgot his roots and who took the time to mentor younger employees to develop and to follow their dreams. Tony was involved and instrumental in many philanthropic organizations. The Salem NH Boys & Girls Club, serving his childhood community and is near and dear to his heart.
In addition to family gatherings, Tony loved theater and sports, holding season tickets for The North Shore Music Theater, The New England Patriots, The Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed attending games and events with family, friends and colleagues.
Tony is survived by his loving wife, Susan Mesiti, his daughter, Gina Mesiti of Salem, NH, son David and wife Beth of Salem, NH; brother James and wife Anita of Methuen, MA, brother Ray Mesiti of North Andover and brother Mario Mesiti of Poultney, VT; five grandchildren, Brittany, Alyssa, Alexander, Madeline & Gabriel; and two step daughters, Nina Light and Katie Fortier plus numerous friends and business colleagues . He also leaves behind his special and most favorite Uncle and Aunt, Tom and Theresa Mercuri, whom he loved and cherished, and will be forever grateful for their support and encouragement throughout his life.
Tony will be remembered fondly and missed by all who touched his life.
